1 day with lunch

Spend the day with Kate exploring her unique process & techniques to create your own paper vessels.

The day will begin with a walk around walled garden at Old Sleningford looking at the garden as inspiration as spring turns into summer. The results will then be interpreted into repeat patterns to decorate card which you will build your vessels with.

After lunch Kate will help you make a papier-mâché vessel.

Come with ideas or just an open mind… the rest will follow.

No experience is necessary; all materials and lunch included. Further information will be provided well ahead of your course.

Kate’s background is in illustration and graphic design, always with an interest in 3D. She began hand building vessels at home during the pandemic and in spring 2022 took part in her first York Open Studios where she started selling her work. Kate continued building vessels with paper and clay and consequently bought a kiln. She works from my home studio in York.

PAPER & CLAY

Kate creates one-off sculptural pieces using the traditional hand building methods of slab, pinch and coil. Sometimes all three will be required for one build. She recently ran a virtual recycled paper vessel workshop for TOAST, sharing her beloved process and love of creating something beautiful from the discarded. Her interests lie in the relationship between the two materials whilst responding to the contrast.
