1 day with lunch

Painter, illustrator and cook Rosie Ramsden will use the gardens as her muse with an aim to fill our sketchbooks and turn drawings into paintings. We’ll spend the morning outside (weather depending, prepare to wrap up warm) sketching areas of the garden and crafting a summer palette, before moving into the fire lit studio to map out and begin a painting from one of our drawings.

There’ll be a warming soup cooked by Rosie with veg from the garden, homemade focaccia to keep the creative juices flowing.

Please bring a sketchbook, a marker pen, charcoal or pencil for sketching, an apron and the paints you’d like to use. This class is for all levels. Please let us know of any allergies ahead of the session. Further information will be provided well ahead of your course.

(We’ll endeavour to be out in the garden but in the case of very bad weather, Rosie will create a still life in the studio for us to sketch).

Rosie Ramsden is an artist and food stylist living and working in North Yorkshire.

Her work in oil and watercolour reflects her new space, having recently moved from city life to rural. She makes sense of her enviroment with loose, delicate brushstrokes, drawing from life and observing the stillness that nature welcomes.

Her current online exhibition, Loudest Sensation, is an evolution of her studio work exploring her relationship with the natural landscape. A selection of paintings are now on show and for sale at Partisan in York and was shown at House of Nidd in November.

Rosie also runs Charcoal Art Club where she hosts online life drawing and an in-person life drawing supper club. Visit charcoalartclub.co.uk for tickets and information.
